This week in wanted to paint something really in season (even though i won’t see this kind of scene here in Barcelona !) : a plant surrounded by snow.
Just above you can have a look at my reference picture and two studies i’ve done, one two years ago and the other one just a few days ago. A lot of time has passed between the two studies but you can see that my first idea of working this subject hasn’t change ! In both of them i defined the flowers with negative painting, i’m using really dark colors in order to build a powerful contrast and i really like working the shadow in the snow with blues !
And whithout any surprise, the painting in the video follow also this big points. I’m building a strong contrast in order to make the snow appear even brighter and more believable. The process of this painting can be a bit unsettling : the picture looks very abstract almost until the end. That’s the tiny details at the end that make all the diference !
