This week, i wanted to paint a flower form south africa, also seen in south of france and in spain : gazanias.
I based this painting on this two reference pictures. When i work with reference pictures i not always just copy what’s on the pitcture, i like to change and combine what i see in order to create my own view on the subject.
This gazanias are really colorful flowers and it was a real pleasure to paint them. For once i didn’t work the shadows in some tones of purple, but i used some dark oranges and red so that i can keep the fire feel in the color. This choice of color helps me also to get a really hot summery feel to this painting because all the colors i’m using are quite warm colors. You can almost feel the sunshine and the hot temperature !
